UIC PHARMACY STUDENT COUNCIL
American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP)
The American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s purpose is to give students the opportunity to understand and become a part of clinical pharmacy and its endeavors to advance the healthcare field. ACCP focuses on providing leadership, professional development, advocacy, and resources that enable clinical pharmacists to excel in practice, research, and education. ACCP-UIC COP Student Chapter is dedicated to providing opportunities for students to become involved in all of these avenues at the earliest point in their career to help shape their future.
ACCP Clinical Specialty Workshop series highlights clinical pharmacy specialties through inviting clinical pharmacists to share their training, offer advice for how to get involved, and prepare any students interested in residency. ACCP also provides resources for students interested in research by hosting networking events and informational sessions. ACCP is involved in interprofessional volunteering to advance clinical research for hospitals, such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Ann and Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. In addition, ACCP seeks students to represent UIC COP at each year’s national meeting for two annual competitions: the ACCP Clinical Research Challenge (a team-based competition for excellence in research) and the ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge (a team-based quiz-bowl style competition). Finally, ACCP and ICHP hosts Morning Rounds: Cases and Therapeutics (MRCaT), where clinical pharmacists lead students through a patient case to provide early exposure to drug therapeutics and SOAP notes, and Journal Club: Landmark, Evidence-based Trials and Studies Talk (LETS Talk), where clinical pharmacists lead students through critical evaluation of randomized controlled trials and evidence-based medicine.
For any students who are interested in working in a clinical setting, want to apply to a residency, or are interested in clinical research, ACCP is a great resource to begin your pharmacy career in the right direction!
